Frequently Asked Questions About Our TTT Program:

Tell us about your Train the Trainer course content and what makes it effective?

TrainSmart's Internationally Certified Train the Trainer workshop was certified in 2009 by the International Board of Certified Trainers. It will be re-certified this July, 2012. What makes the content effective is that it is highly interactive and the activities relate to the participant's own content. As pre-work each participant is sent a list of requirements that he/she will be working on throughout the TTT workshop. The final training project is to facilitate a portion of their content, which is recorded and their is facilitated feedback from both the facilitator and the other participants. From the first 10 minutes of the workshop there is interactivity and practice.

Is your Train the Trainer content standard or do you customize it per a trainers' needs? If you customize it, what is your assessment methodology? If you don't customize it, what is your rationale?

There are core topics that are standard and required for the certification; however, we do tailor/customize each Train the Trainer workshop to enhance the competencies that are most relevant to the participants. For example, if the participants primarily design and facilitate one-on-one and via webinar, more emphasis is placed on the best way to design, deliver and assess for that style of training delivery. The final assessment are the results of the required activities and the final training project.

Please elaborate on the main focus of the content of your Train the Trainer program

The focus of the Train the Trainer program is to prepare the participant to understand how adults learn best, understand how to assess the learning need, how to write solid objectives that tie to the program design and development. There is a large part of the workshop that focuses on the delivering and evaluating of the training. Topics include communications skills, presentation skills, various best practices training techniques, preparing for the delivery of training, listening, questioning, handling difficult situations, virtual training, one-on-one, classroom management and finally evaluation.

Tell us about your most significant sucess stories regarding your Train the Trainer program?

There are several success stories:

1) NTN Bearing Manufacturing reported 45% less incidents and a reduction of 30% in turnover since the delivery of their custom Train-the-Trainer workshop. The subject matter experts did not know how to structure, train and evaluate the learner. The TTT provided practice, the development of checklists and consistent processes to train and evaluate the learner, which reduced incidents on the line. Further, the better informed and trained employee was more successful therefore was not released or did not leave due to frustration, thus reducing the turnover rate. This measurement has been over the last year.

2) Ritedose Pharmaceuticals had no formalized way to train their clinical and regulatory personnel. Their SOPs were not up to par. We provided a TTT that included best practices, using their content, on creating a training SOP, checklists, creation of solid assessments and how to implement. This was 18 months ago, as of May, 2012, the report is that they have formalized the process and their latest FDA training audit was without negative marks.

3) The Bermuda Government required their SMEs to be trained on how to train and evaluate for various levels within the Bermuda Government, as they were launching a Government wide set of operational changes which included all new technologies and change management. TrainSmart conducted a very tailored TTT which included the key topics that the group was required to transfer knowledge. We assisted in the design of the training program, and prepared the participants to train the various arms of the Government through ILT, one-on-one training. The implementation has taken place and the Head of Bermuda Government Administration is thrilled with the decision to choose TrainSmart and for the impact the learning had to the success of the training and change management component of the initiative.

4) Underwriters Laboratories in 2009, had a initiative to train their "Knowledge Workers" on how to design, develop and train on their particular areas of expertise. There were multiple reasons for this (1) capture the intellectual capital of their work force so that it was not lost due to retirement, death, resignation for another company; reduce the amount of revenue paid to third party vendors providing these services, while empowering their knowledge workers to grow professionally. To date, approximately 1,000 UL SMEs have been certified in the TTT. Approximately, 40% of the SMEs are producing most of their own training materials and that percentage is increasing.
