Supervisory Management Training Program

Objective

To identify, sharpen and practice the critical skills needed for supervising an effective team.


Format

A series of 3 – 4 hour workshops designed to introduce new skills and provide an assignment for skill application on the job between each session.


Session 1:
  • Pre-Work – Be prepared to discuss and work on a specific issue (Discussion)
  • Traits of an effective supervisor – Small group brainstorm and discussion
  • Stages of Team Development – Mini-lecturette and discussion
  • Ground rules – Intro and setting ground rules for session
  • Interactive Activity – Toxic Waste or Bridge & Tower (building exercise)
  • Active Listening and Feedback – Intro of model, exercises and practice
  • Assignment

Session 2:

  • Review of Session 1
  • Team Activity – Consensus Building/Survival Type -
  • Problem Solving and Decision Making – Intro of models and practice
  • Communicating Respectfully (Conduct MBTI or review?) – Instrument and discussion
  • Handling Conflict – (Killmann Instrument) – Instrument and discussion
  • Assignment
Session 3:
  • Setting goals, expectations and priorities – Tips for goal setting and work agreements
  • Coaching for better performance – Using coaching skills for development
  • Empowering others (includes delegating)
  • Keeping stress in check
  • Wrap-up
  • Each session will be highly experiential and interactive. Videos, case studies and role plays can be mixed and matched to increase interest and retention.
